Freida McFadden shared her real name in an interview with USA Today, saying it was time.
WASHINGTON — The bestselling and prolific author of “The Housemaid” has revealed her true identity, telling USA Today in an interview that “it’s time.”
Freida McFadden writes bestselling psychological thrillers and medical humor novels, and her works have been translated into 40 languages. Her most recent novel, “The Dinner Party,” published last week.
The name on the book cover is a pseudonym, and the author wears a wig and glasses to maintain her privacy.
On Wednesday, she revealed her real name.
“I’m at a point in my career when I’m tired of this being a secret. I’m tired of people debating if I’m a real person or if I’m three men,” McFadden said to USA Today. “I am a real person, and I have a real identity, and I don’t have anything to hide.”
McFadden is actually Sara Cohen, a doctor who treats brain disorders, USA Today reported. She said she wears a wig because “I have no idea how to style my hair.”
She said she created the pseudonym so that her writing career wouldn’t conflict with her hospital job. She hasn’t worked full time in her medical profession since 2023, she said.
“I just realized I was completely overwhelmed from trying to do both,” she said in the interview.
The movie adaptation of her book “The Housemaid,” which premiered in December, stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The Paul Feig film became a breakout hit in theaters, earning over $396 million.
