Haitian-born chef Day Joseph joins the newest season of Top Chef, showcasing Atlanta’s diverse culinary scene and the family traditions behind her cooking
ATLANTA — Chef Day Joseph, a rising culinary talent known for her bold Afro-Caribbean flavors, is among the newest contestants on the hit cooking competition Top Chef.
Joseph said her love for cooking began at home, inspired by the gatherings and celebrations that brought her family together around the table.
“I looked forward to celebrations with my family and gathering around a table,” Joseph said. “That was one of the most cherished memories that I had.”
Born in Haiti, Joseph refined her culinary skills in several Michelin-starred restaurants in New York City before bringing her talent to Atlanta. Since arriving in the city, she has made her mark in the local food scene, leading kitchens at several Afro-Caribbean restaurants across metro Atlanta. Her cooking style draws inspiration from culinary traditions across the Caribbean.
“Anywhere from the Caribbean, from Trinidad to Jamaica, there’s such a great tradition—preservation, cooking nose to tail, cooking with what’s around you,” Joseph said.
Now, Joseph is bringing those influences to a national audience as she competes on the 23rd season of Top Chef. The reality competition will take contestants across the Carolinas as they face high-pressure culinary challenges.
Joseph said the experience has already pushed her beyond her limits.
“It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life,” she said. “It definitely pushes you and stretches you in ways that you wouldn’t imagine.”
While she couldn’t reveal how far she advances in the competition, Joseph said her mission goes beyond winning the title. Instead, she hopes to share the heart behind her cooking—and the cultural traditions that inspire it.
