Atlanta Latinos MagazineMercedes-Benz Stadium – Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Atlanta United rallied for two goals in the second half to secure a win and three points in the standings. Atlanta entered the game on the edge of the playoff line. The win moved them up one spot to sixth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Inter Miami struck first midway through the first half. Gonzalo Higuain converted a penalty kick in the 32’. Brad Guzan was whistled for the foul in the penalty box.

Atlanta United tied it up in the 59’. Atlanta was awarded a free kick from the top of the box. Luiz Arauju drilled in low on the ground, under the wall, and just past the goal keeper for Atlanta’s first goal.

Atlanta assumed the lead in the 73’. Brooks Lennon sent a long pass to Araujo in the center of the field, and Araujo delivered a beautiful pass to set up Josef Martinez for the easy goal. It was Josef’s team leading 11th goal of the season.

The match was chippy. Miami was whistled for 25 fouls and five yellow cards. Atlanta’s defense was stout once again, allowing just the one goal off the penalty kick. Guzan made several terrific saves, including a game saver in the 90th minute that preserved the win.

Notes…Santiago Sosa did not play in the match due to injury…Miami had won its last two matches with a combined 8-1 score…attendance was announced 42,536…Atlanta’s next match is home against Toronto on Saturday, October 30th.
