Atlanta Earns Disappointing Draw 1-1

Luiz Araujo Scores Again

Atlanta Latinos MagazineMercedes-Benz StadiumAtlanta United needed a win to pick up a valuable three points in the standings as it makes a playoff push. Toronto entered the match in second to last place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta, however, had to settle for a 1-1 tie.

Atlanta scored early. In the 15’, Luiz Araujo made a brilliant defensive play, stealing the ball from the goalkeeper. He was able to easily convert that into his fourth goal of the season.

Atlanta would hold the 1-0 for most of the rest of the match. That is until the 88’, when Toronto’s Jordan Perruzza found the back of the net. The assist was credited to Dom Dwyer.

Atlanta was looking for a season sweep of Toronto, having won the previous two matches this year. Atlanta maintains a hold on a playoff spot, but the standings are tight from #5 through #8.

Atlanta’s next match is scheduled for Wednesday, November 3rd at NY Red Bulls.
