The legendary singer is healing from surgery to remove a “cancerous spot” on his left lung.

WASHINGTON — Singer Barry Manilow postponed his first batch of arena concerts Friday, saying his body is not ready for the physical strain of a 90-minute show so soon after his cancer surgery.

The legendary musician revealed in December he had a cancerous spot on his left lung. He said after recovering from several weeks of bronchitis, his doctor ordered an MRI to make sure everything was OK. During that scan, the doctor discovered the spot on his lung that needed to be removed.

Earlier this month, Manilow said the surgery went well and he was recovering. At that time, he postponed some Las Vegas residency dates that had been set for Feb. 12 through Feb. 21.

On Friday, he postponed his arena concert dates for Feb. 27 through March 17.

He said he had met with his surgeon, who told him that he’s not yet ready for a 90-minute show: “Your lungs aren’t ready. You’re in great shape, considering what you’ve been through, but your body isn’t ready,” according to Manilow.

Manilow called the visit “very depressing” and said that despite using a treadmill every day, he can’t sing more than three songs in a row before he has to stop.

The postponed tour dates are in Tampa, Orlando, Sunrise and Estero, Florida; Charlotte, North Carolina; Baltimore, Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Nashville; Lexington, Kentucky, and Charleston, South Carolina.

Manilow said he would reschedule the postponed shows.

“My doctor said that my body had been through hell and that it needed time to heal,” he said. “So I’m going back to healing.”
