“I heard it snap over the screaming crowd,” said the musician, who underwent surgery after the skateboarding accident backstage.

WASHINGTON — Musician Billy Strings has postponed some tour dates after breaking his leg in a skateboarding crash during a show Saturday night in Charlotteville, Virginia.

“Well, can’t say y’all didn’t warn me about screwing around on my skateboard!!” he said in an Instagram post announcing the postponement of shows in Charleston, West Virginia, and Fishers, Indiana.

The neo-bluegrass musician said in the post that the accident happened after he walked off stage before the encore, when he tried to do a skateboarding trick he has “done a million times.” He said he landed awkwardly and broke his leg.

“I heard it snap over the screaming crowd!!” he said. “Sounded like a damn 2×4.”

He underwent surgery where screws were put into his leg and has been in the hospital for the past few days.

“I had every intention of carrying on with the tour,” he said. “I really don’t want to let anybody down, but after some long talks with these doctors, my friends, band and colleagues, my wife etc…. I should probably let this thing heal.”

His April 22 show in Charleston, West Virginia, will be rescheduled for Aug. 4. His shows in Fishers, Indiana, on April 24-26 will be rescheduled for Aug. 6-8.

Tickets for the original dates will be honored for the rescheduled shows.

“I feel like such an idiot. But what are ya gonna do , ya know? At least I didn’t hit my head or break my wrist or something,” he said. “Again, I’m really sorry and I promise I will make it up to you. See you this summer.”
