ATLANTA — One of Atlanta’s schools is receiving national recognition for the kindness efforts on full display in classrooms each day.
Atlanta Public Schools shared the news Monday that Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School is one of just 32 schools nationwide to earn the inaugural Kind School Designation for the 2025-2026 school year.
Teach Kindness announced the honor on Monday. The Teach Kindness initiative provides resources to help schools create a positive environment and teach kindness as a skill set.
MLK Jr. Middle is the only metro Atlanta school to be awarded the honor.
Kindness is built into the culture at the school. At the start of every class, teachers ask a kindness question. The school has a daily structure known as connect before context,” to ensure that kindness is embedded into the school community.
“It takes real effort to build a school culture where kindness is the norm, not the exception,” said Brandi Watts, National Director of Teach Kindness. “These schools are showing that kindness can be taught and practiced alongside academics. We’re proud to recognize the work they’ve done to make it part of everyday school life.”
