Josef Scores 100th Goal in Atlanta Win
Mercedes-Benz Stadium – Atlanta United got back into the win column with 1-0 victory over Inter Miami on Wednesday night.
Atlanta’s one and only goal came in the 78’ on a penalty kick. Miami’s Leandro Gonzalez Pirez was whistled for a handball in the box. Atlanta turned to its leading scorer, Josef Martinez. He converted the penalty, notching his 100th goal in all competitions for Atlanta United.
The defense was stifling once again, allowing seven total shots with none on target. Guzan did not have any saves but earned his eight shut out of the year.
This marked the first win for Atlanta against Miami, as Miami had two wins and three ties prior.
Atlanta started the night on the outside of a playoff spot, but moved up into a spot with the win. Atlanta’s next match is Saturday, October 2 at Montreal.
Notes…Josef Martinez is the fifth player in MLS history to score 100 goals with a single team… Attendance was announced 42,519.
