Disney casts Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in live-action ‘Tangled’

WASHINGTON — Disney has officially found its stars to bring “Tangled” to life.

Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim have been cast as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the beloved 2010 animated film, Disney announced Wednesday.

Croft will take on the role of the big-hearted princess with long, magical hair, while Manheim will play the charming thief who helps her escape her tower and see the world for the very first time.

If those names sound familiar, you’re not wrong. Croft starred as Raven in the DC series “Titans” and played real-life teenage sailor Jessica Watson in Netflix’s “True Spirit.”

Manheim is already quite a Disney staple, thanks to his role in the wildly popular “Zombies” franchise. He also recently showed off his singing chops with a stint as Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of “Little Shop of Horrors” last year.

“Too grateful to put into words,” Manheim wrote on Instagram, sharing his excitement. “I will do him justice I promise.” 

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will be directed by Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman,” “Better Man”) and is expected to lean heavily into the musical elements that made the original such a hit. The script was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Do Revenge,” “Thor: Love and Thunder”), with Kristin Burr (“Freakier Friday,” “Cruella”) producing.

Disney conducted an extensive search for its new Rapunzel and Flynn, including screen tests in London late last year, before landing on Croft and Manheim, the Hollywood Reporter said. The studio is said to have taken its time with casting, knowing just how beloved the characters are and how high fan expectations were.

The original “Tangled,” voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, grossed nearly $600 million worldwide and went on to inspire a Disney Channel series, making it a modern Disney animation classic.

A release date for the upcoming live-action remake has not yet been announced.
