The Dolly Parton themed celebration will include live music, cupcakes, photo opportunities with an impersonator and more.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Dolly Parton, the Queen of Country, is turning 80 but won’t be able to attend a planned celebration at the Grand Ole Opry.
The “9 to 5” singer made the announcement on the Opry’s Instagram page on Tuesday.
“Some of my favorite memories happened right here on stage at the grand ol’ Opry,” Parton said in the video. “I wish I could be there in person, but I’ll be sending you all my love for sure. So, you have the best night ever.”
The event will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, two days before Parton’s actual birthday.
The celebration will include birthday cupcakes for those taking a daytime tour of the Opry House, a “larger-than-life” birthday card for fans to sign, photo opportunities with a Dolly Parton impersonator, Dolly Parton-themed drinks, and tributes throughout the Opry show.
Country stars Lainey Wilson, Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent and Trannie Anderson will perform on Jan. 17.
“I just wanted to say how much it means to me that you’re all coming together again this year to celebrate my big ol’ birthday with some of my songs,” Parton said in the video.
While she didn’t explain why she wouldn’t be attending, Parton’s health has been a topic of concern for fans over the past few months as she skipped events she was previously scheduled to attend.
In October, she revealed she was dealing with her health, prompting her to postpone her Las Vegas residency. In an Oct. 8 Instagram video, she set the record straight on rumors about her health.
“Lately, everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick?” Parton said at the time. “I wanted you to know that I’m not dying.”
She said she had neglected her health while she took care of her late husband Carl Dean, who died in 2025 at 82.
Parton said at the time that she canceled a few things to stay closer to home and stay closer to the Vanderbilt Hospital, where she said she is undergoing treatments “here and there.”
In November, she missed the Dollywood Hall of Fame induction and apologized to fans.
“I sure wish I could be with you in person today, but you probably heard that I’ve been dealing with a few health challenges this fall,” she said in a video. “My doctors told me to take it easy for just a little while. I’m truly sorry I can’t be there.”
