Here’s what you need to know from GDOT.
MACON, Ga. — GDOT spokesperson Gina Snyder spoke with 13WMAZ on how snow is impacting Central Georgia roads Sunday morning.
Here’s what you need to know:
Synder says that GDOT crews have been working since midnight monitoring road conditions.
She advises drivers to slow down when they’re on the roads.
“We’re trying to hit every spot, but you may hit a spot of black ice that we hadn’t treated yet and then there’s trouble there,” she says. “Also, pay attention; be more vigilant.”
She says if you see a GDOT salt truck moving and working, give it room because they’re trying to spread salt across the entire road.
Snyder says that, as the accumulation begins, they’re hitting the interstates and state routes.
“It’s kind of started to accumulate a little bit in the past hour or so,” Snyder said. “So we’re hitting those spots on the interstate and state routes.”
GDOT is monitoring all interstate and state routes, Synder says.
While they’re working to hit every spot, Snyder says that drivers should be cautious for any potentially untreated spots.
“We always go back to arrive alive. First, in this kind of condition, we need to slow down because we are, we’re trying to hit every spot,” Snyder said. “But you may hit a spot of black ice that we hadn’t treated yet and then, um, there’s trouble there.”
She says that the work of the agency will continue until roads across the district are safe for drivers.
“We will be working throughout this weekend until the roads are dry across this district,” Snyder said.
