CONYERS, Ga. — A metro Atlanta elementary school is lifting a heavy burden off families who might struggle with putting food on the table.
Students at CJ Hicks Elementary in Conyers will now be able to find quality food on campus that they can take home after the opening of the new on-campus grocery store.
Thanks to the help of Kaiser Permanente and Goodr, who are making it “easier for kids to have what they need to learn and thrive, without adding another burden to parents’ plates.”
The store opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday with sponsors Kaiser Permanente and Goodr. Families of students at the school can shop at the store monthly for “fresh produce, pantry staples, frozen items, and basic household goods in a consistent, reliable way” for free.
“Food insecurity remains a real issue across Georgia, and school communities feel it directly. By putting a grocery store on campus, we’re meeting families where they already are and removing a couple of the biggest barriers at once: cost and access,” said a spokesperson in a release.
The store will remain open for the remainder of the year.
