SANTA CLARA, Calif. — If you saw R&B artist Coco Jones sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” ahead Super Bowl LX, you may have noticed a little more than her stunning vocal ability during her performance.
Jones rocked an all-white look that reminded some people of Whitney Houston’s outfit in her 1991 performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Houston wore a white tracksuit – lined with a single red stripe across her chest as she sang the national anthem 35 years ago. She paired the look with a white headband.
With musicians behind her, Jones sang what’s commonly referred to as The Black National Anthem flawlessly. The similarities sported in Jones’ look included a white headband and a white jacket that also included a red stripe. Jones paired it with a white bubble skirt.
Many people took to social media to mention the similarities.
In a recent with Entertainment Tonight, Jones shared that should would be paying homage to Houston. The singer said she was excited for people to see the resemblances, mentioning that Karl Kani helped design it.
In an exclusive wit Essence, Kani shared how the reimagined look to keep the athletic flair but included elegance.
Saturday, Jones made a post about her performance where an all-white tracksuit, with the caption “let the countdown begin 💕🏈 #superbowllx.”
