WASHINGTON — Hyundai Motor America is recalling more than 290,000 vehicles in the United States due to a defect that could cause seat belt anchors to detach, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
The recall affects 294,128 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The issue involves the driver and front passenger seat belt anchors, which may not properly restrain occupants if they become detached.
“A detached seat belt anchor will not adequately restrain the seat occupant,” the agency said.
The recall includes certain 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 models, 2023-2026 Genesis G90 vehicles, and 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models.
Hyundai dealers will inspect the seat belt anchors and reinforce or replace them as needed, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 5.
Owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 for more information.
