The 2-year-old’s family celebrated her return home after the “sweet” and “sassy” girl received a life-saving heart transplant.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A family is back home after a nearly two-month medical journey that took them to Nashville for their young daughter’s lifesaving heart surgery.
A different kind of noise filled the air Monday evening — one made of hope. Neighbors, friends and family gathered, waiting together.
“She’s a miracle,” Rebecca Bennett said of her 2-year-old niece, Kimber Wilson.
“We call her a Sour Patch Kid,” she added. “Sometimes she’s really sweet, and then other times she’s sassy.”
Kimber’s life hasn’t always been sweet.
The toddler was diagnosed with a rare heart condition, dilated cardiomyopathy, leading to a long wait for a transplant. It was a wait filled with uncertainty and prayer. But in a matter of moments, everything changed.
In what her family calls nothing short of a miracle, a donor heart became available. Within 24 hours, Kimber’s life took a hopeful turn.

For the past two months, Kimber and her family — her parents Dustin and Nicole and her siblings — stayed in Nashville while she recovered and grew stronger with her new heart.
On Monday, that journey brought them home.
Emergency vehicles blared sirens to mark the celebration. The family’s driveway became the finish line to a long and emotional road.
“It’s a blessing. It’s amazing,” Dustin Wilson said. “It’ll humble you — very humbling. It’s amazing.”
Now, the family is focused on what comes next — life at home, together.
“We’re just excited to have them back home and to have her healthy,” Dustin said.
Sometimes, miracles don’t need explaining — they just need to be witnessed.
