School leaders released what they called ‘initial scenarios’ in February 2026, which proposed closing nearly 30 schools due to low-enrollment.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County Schools District is preparing to outline the next phase of community engagement in its proposed redistricting plan.
The school district said that leaders will highlight how community feedback from Round One helped shape the updated scenarios and will explain its ongoing work to address school building utilization, including overcrowding and under-enrollment.
School leaders released what they called ‘initial scenarios’ in February 2026, which proposed closing nearly 30 schools due to low-enrollment. The ‘initial scenarios’ were released to show parents their potential redistricting plans, which were the result of the Student Assignment Project (SAP) process. The district has been a part of this process for nearly two years. SAP consists of an evaluation of their buildings, boundaires and programs with about 140 district stakeholder contributors representing the geography of DeKalb County.
For Round Two, a look at the proposed conversion, repurpose and closure list is posted on the DeKalb County Schools website. That list includes about 19 schools they are proposing to close or repurpose, six schools proposed for conversion and two schools are no longer closing. The two schools the district is proposing not to close are Rock Chapel and Stoneview elementary schools. Three new proposed closures were announced at the Early Learning Center (ELC), Fairington Elementary School and Oakview Elementary School.
Parents will also have more opportunities to voice their concerns about SAP. The district will share information about upcoming meetings for community members, families, and staff to attend to provide feedback on the scenarios.
