The teaser trailer for the “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot offers a glimpse at the return of several of the show’s original stars.
WASHINGTON — Despite his best efforts, life is still unfair for “Malcolm in the Middle” during the show’s upcoming revival.
The official teaser was released Monday for the four-part streaming event “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.”
According to the show’s synopsis, “After shielding himself from his family for over a decade, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) is dragged back into their orbit when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party.”
The teaser offered a glimpse at the return of several of the show’s other original stars including Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprising the roles of Malcom’s older brothers Francis and Reese, respectively. Emy Coligado is also back as Piama, Francis’ wife.
Erik Per Sullivan, who played younger brother Dewey, is the lone original member of the main cast to not return for the revival. Actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is taking over the role.
During a June episode of Dana Carvey and David Spade’s podcast “Fly on the Wall,” Cranston revealed why Sullivan decided against joining the revival.
“I talked to Erik and I said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back,'” Cranston described. “He goes, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’ And I go, ‘Yeah, so we’re looking forward to having you back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic that you are.’
“He’s actually going to Harvard,” Cranston added. “He’s really, really smart, and I think he’s getting his master’s at Harvard right now. He said, ‘Oh God, no. I haven’t acted since I was 9 or something. So I’m not into it.'”
When does “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” premiere?
The revival premieres April 10, 2026, on Hulu.
