NEW YORK — Rapper Megan Thee Stallion was taken to the hospital Tuesday after feeling sick while performing during her Broadway production of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” in New York City.
“Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital,” Megan’s hairstylist and friend Kellon Deryck wrote on social media.
The rapper and songwriter performed for the opening but the performance was cut short and Megan was replaced mid-show, according to Loren Lorosa who was in the audience. She is playing the role of Zidler through May 17.
“During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” Megan’s representative told Complex in a statement. “We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
She made her Broadway debut last week, playing a genderbent version of Zidler from Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film “Moulin Rouge!” The musical is a 10-time Tony Award winning show.
This is also the first time a woman has played the role.
