WASHINGTON — Sam’s Club members will have to pay a bit more for their annual membership starting in May.
The wholesale club communicated the change via email to members, saying the price hike will help in “delivering unbeatable value and exceptional shopping experiences while investing in an ever-expanding set of membership benefits.”
Beginning on May 1, the membership for the year will increase from $50 to $60 annually for Club members, the basic subscription tier. The higher tier will also see a hike, jumping from $110 per year to $120 annually for Plus members.
Sam’s Club also said that its Sam’s Cash rewards cap will be increased from $500 to $750 per year.
The Plus membership comes with a slew of additional benefits, including earlier shopping hours.
Plus members who pay for Sam’s Club’s highest-tier membership get exclusive early access from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily. Last October, those perks were expanded to include new Sunday hours.
The new Sunday hours moved most Sam’s Club warehouses to a simplified schedule of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, with a few exceptions. The warehouses were previously open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
The changes come as Sam’s Club CEO Chris Nicolas seeks to expand the wholesale club.
During Walmart’s investor day last year, Nicholas revealed the company’s latest goal to open 15 new stores every year for the “foreseeable future.” Nicholas added that the company also plans on remodeling all existing Sam’s Club locations, a total of about 600 stores.
