NORCROSS, Ga. — The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is urgently searching for a teenage girl who has been missing for almost a week in Gwinnett County,
Authorities say 16-year-old Zyla Velazquez was last seen leaving her home in Norcross on the morning of Feb. 18, around 9:00 a.m.
In surveillance footage below, Velazquez is seen taking out a bag of trash, then appears to become distracted by something on her phone before walking down the steps.
Velazquez has not been seen since being captured on video, and her disappearance is considered concerning, with Velazquez’s mother, Nakeya Moore, telling NCMEC that she is extremely worried for her daughter’s safety.
Moore emphasized that it is “entirely out of character” for Velazquez, saying she has never gone missing like this before.
Moore is urging the public to come forward with any information regarding her daughter’s whereabouts, hoping this message will reach Velazquez.
“Zyla, I love you so much. Keep praying, don’t give up, and stay strong. You have a whole army looking for you to bring you home safe.”
