Nashville Blanks Atlanta 2-0
Poor Performance Dooms United
Atlanta Latinos Magazine – It was a game Atlanta United had to win. With its playoff hopes threadbare, Atlanta had a home match against last place Nashville SC Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Nashville entered the game on an eight-game losing streak.
But Atlanta did not show up. In an uninspired, listless performance, Atlanta slept walked through the entire game. Nashville earned the 2-0 victory, scoring early and defending that lead to the very end.
Nashville came out attacking from the opening kick. An early onslaught of the goal netted the game winner. In the five’, Alex Muyl found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Both Sam Surridge and Shaq Moore were credited with assists.
Nashville’s defense held from there, allowing only .64 on expected goals from Atlanta. Nashville’s goalkeeper Joe Willis was barely tested, as Atlanta managed only ten shots in the game, with four of those in the box. It was his seventh shutout of the season.
Nashville added an insurance goal in the 76’. Hany Mukhtar scored on a beautiful give-and-go goal. It was his sixth goal this year. Teal Bunbury earned the assist.
After the match, Atlanta’s manager Rob Valentino expressed his disappointment in the team’s performance. He said that all that they could do was put this match behind them and move on to the next match.
That next match is this Wednesday, September 18th at home against Inter Miami. Miami leads the Eastern Conference standings and has Messi back after missing a couple of months with an injury.
Notes…newly acquired Alexey Miranchuk made his home debut at the Benz…Atlanta remains in 10th place, just one spot from the playoff line…attendance was announced as 43,330.
