Business owners reflect on impact as vendors prepare for next steps, and farewell events mark final days.

STONECREST, Ga. — The New Black Wall Street Market in Stonecrest is shutting down after five years, ending a space that many say helped support local entrepreneurship, culture, and small-business growth.

Inside the market, the Pink Lion Jazz Club recently hosted a farewell “Pink Lemonade” party for seniors as part of its final days. Once a busy destination filled with vendors, live events, and a mission to uplift Black entrepreneurship, the market is now winding down operations.

Some business owners say the space not only gave them visibility but also helped shape their future paths.

“Some of the things you don’t hear— all the people who came here and now they own their own brick and mortar. Some of them found out that they really are good business persons and now they’re eligible to go into the malls and places like that. So bittersweet kind of, I guess, but I also know some of the successes that have happened here, and I think of it more as a transition,” said Richard Jordan of the Pink Lion Jazz Club.

Jordan says the Pink Lion’s popular “Pink Lemonade” event will continue across the street in a shopping center. He also reflects on the market’s early momentum.

He says New Black Wall Street was strongest coming out of the pandemic, when it provided a key platform for artists and vendors to showcase their work, but says sustaining that success became more difficult over time.

“It needed four areas to market—local, national, regional, and international. We probably get more regional traffic than we do local traffic. It’s kind of like people who said, ‘I’ve lived in Atlanta for 30 years and never been to the aquarium,’ and that’s just the way it is.”

Some merchants say they needed more community support and are now hoping to restart their businesses in other locations once the market closes.

The market is scheduled to close on April 30.

While management says the closure is permanent, others involved in overseeing the property dispute that characterization, saying the closure is temporary and the space could reopen after ongoing issues are resolved.
