In late 2024, Party City filed for its second bankruptcy and closed hundreds of stores.
WASHINGTON — The nation’s largest party supply store is making a comeback nearly two years after it shuttered stores and filed for bankruptcy.
Rather than individual stores, Party City is finding a new home at a popular office supply store. Staples announced it would partner with Party City, housing the party supply store inside more than 700 Staples stores nationwide.
In late 2024, Party City filed for bankruptcy with hundreds of stores closing in 2025.
Staples announced the partnership with Party City on Tuesday. It said more stores will be coming later in 2026.
“Staples has always been focused on making things easy for our customers, and our partnership with Party City takes that promise into new territory,” Marshall Warkentin, President, Staples U.S. Retail, said in a news release. “By bringing Party City into Staples stores, we’re expanding what customers can accomplish in one place — combining helium balloons and party supplies with our print and marketing services to offer a complete solution for celebrations, from graduations to grand openings and everything in between.”
Staples said the in-store Party City section will offer more “way to personalize each invent, including a range of latex and foil balloons inflated with helium and ready to take home.” In the coming weeks, Staples said customers can schedule balloon pickups in advance.
“For as long as we can all remember, Party City has been the trusted go-to for balloons and party goods, known for quality, creativity and celebrations,” Joel Weinshanker, CEO of Ad Populum, owner of Party City, said in a statement. “As we take the new Party City to more places than ever before, finding the right partners is essential. Staples stood out immediately, not only for its national footprint, but for its strong connection to the communities we have both been part of for years. It felt like a natural fit from the start. Together, we’re making it easier for our many millions of combined loyal customers to celebrate and party with confidence at their local Party City, now at Staples.”
When Party City filed for its Chapter 11 protection, it had more than 850 locations across 45 states and Puerto Rico.
