New England Defeats Atlanta United 1-0
Atlanta Shutout Once Again
Mercedes-Benz Stadium – New England Revolution entered the match in first place in the Eastern Conference. And it proved to be the best team, knocking off Atlanta United 1-0.
The lone goal of the match came in the first half. In the 18th minute, Gustavo Bou found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season. Assists were credited to both Adam Buksa and Wilfrid Kaptoum.
Atlanta continues to struggle offensively. It was the fifth time that it has been shut out on the year, with four of those in the last five matches.
However, Atlanta was without most of its starters. The core of the defense, including Brad Guzan, Miles Robinson, and George Bello, were missing due to US national team duties. Likewise Ezequiel Barco missed the match as he represented his home country, Argentina, in the Olympics. Midfielder Santiago Sosa was suspended due to yellow card accumulations. Josef Martinez was unavailable, although there was no reason specified for his absence.
Notes…Atlanta homegrown player George Campbell made his first start…attendance was announced as 42,517…Atlanta travels to Cincinnati on Wednesday for its next match.
