The first visible signs of the winter storm began falling as light sleet Saturday morning in Cleveland, Georgia, where 11Alive’s Chase Houle is reporting from.
CLEVELAND, Ga. — The first signs of the winter storm were visible in north Georgia on Saturday morning, as sleet began falling across the region.

While folks in north Georgia are used to winter weather — and one man Chase spoke to said indicated he’d watch the behavior of his farm animals to register his level of concern — the owner of the local Ace Hardware store in Cleveland said people are taking this storm seriously judging by the business he’s seeing.
Graham Rogers, the owner at Rogers Ace Hardware, said he’s seen 80% more business in the last three days.
“I think a lot of people are preparing for the worst,” he told Chase. “I think this one’s probably gonna surprise us, by the volume of people that’s concerned of what’s to come. You never know exactly what you’re gonna get in north Georgia – so, you know, you gotta be ready here.”
According to the 11Alive Weather Impact Team, the greatest amounts of ice will be in northeast Georgia, including potentially White County, where there could be up to a half-inch possible.
A half-inch of ice can be highly disruptive — dangerous travel on roads, widespread tree damage and the possibility of long-term power outages.
