Pawn Stars’ Corey Harrison turns to crowdfunding for help with over $100K in medical bills

TULUM, Quintana Roo — A devastating motorcycle crash has left a former “Pawn Stars” star with over $100,000 in medical debt and turning to fans for support. 

Corey Harrison was left fighting for his life earlier this year after a motorcycle crash in Tulum, Mexico, right before his father Rick Harrison’s wedding in Cancun, according to a online fundraiser created by friend and fellow “Pawn Stars” personality Aron Chambers.

Corey was rushed to a hospital in Playa del Carmen, where he learned he suffered 11 fractured ribs, a punctured lung, a concussion, and internal bleeding, Chambers said in the post. Costs quickly became expensive, which Chambers blamed on the hospital being in a tourist destination, to the point where Corey checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice and returned home.

Corey’s pain worsened while he was at home, and despite hiring an at-home doctor to administer IV fluids and morphine treatments, he eventually had to be transferred to a more affordable medical facility in Mérida, 4.5 hours away.

At that facility, Corey underwent three life-saving operations. The costs of the surgeries, along with the previous medical expenses, allegedly soared past $100,000.

“Being on television and part of Pawn Stars fame doesn’t come with a built-in safety net for emergencies like this — medical crises don’t care about celebrity status,” Chambers said in the GoFundMe. “This fundraiser is our lifeline to get him through this. Every dollar raised will go directly to Corey to cover his outstanding medical bills, back rent, ongoing medications and therapies, and the costs of future travel home for full recovery.”

Harrison previously told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he felt comparatively lucky, financially, because if it had happened in the United State “it would have probably cost me about $300,000.”
