The delayed start is intended to give campus operations teams more time to address any remaining hazards, according to the university
ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia will reopen Tuesday on a delayed schedule as conditions improve following the recent winter storm that moved through this weekend.
University officials said staff should report to work at noon, and the first in-person classes for students will begin at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Dining halls are set to open at 9:30 a.m., and Campus Transit service will begin at 12:15 p.m. University Housing will remain open for students who live on campus.
The delayed start is intended to give campus operations teams more time to address any remaining hazards, according to the university. Officials noted that some members of the campus community may still face travel challenges depending on their location. Employees are encouraged to contact supervisors to discuss arrangements if needed, and students should reach out to instructors if they are experiencing ongoing travel difficulties.
Those returning to campus were advised to do so only if they believe conditions are safe for travel.

Faculty members are expected to ensure continuity of instruction by making up missed material from the winter storm closure. That could include online lectures, readings, assignments or other instructional activities, as long as they are clearly communicated to students. However, the university said no online instruction should take place before in-person classes resume Tuesday afternoon to allow those traveling additional time.
Essential personnel — employees identified by their departments as critical to maintaining university operations and providing key support to students — are expected to report as scheduled unless travel conditions prevent it. They are advised to contact supervisors for more information.
Faculty, staff and students at UGA’s extended campuses are asked to follow local guidance specific to their locations.
University leaders also expressed appreciation for staff members who worked during the storm to maintain essential services and prepare the campus for reopening, as well as faculty members working to ensure instructional continuity.
