The recall affects multiple models after reports the camera image may not appear when drivers shift into reverse.
WASHINGTON — Volvo is recalling more than 413,000 vehicles nationwide because a software problem can cause the rearview camera image to fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
Instead of showing the rearview image, the screen may display a message saying the camera is temporarily unavailable, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report.
The issue affects several Volvo models from the 2021 to 2025 model years, including:
- VOLVO XC40 (2021-2025)
- VOLVO S90 (2022-2025)
- VOLVO V90 (2022)
- VOLVO XC60 (2022-2025)
- VOLVO V90CC (2022-2025)
- VOLVO XC90 (2023-2025)
- VOLVO V60CC (2023-2025)
- VOLVO V60 (2023-2025)
- VOLVO S60 (2023-2025)
- VOLVO C40BEV (2022-2024)
- VOLVO EC40 (2025)
- VOLVO EX40 (2025)
Volvo said it will fix the problem with a free software update, which can be installed by dealers or delivered over the air. The company said it is preparing the update now and expects it to roll out in the coming weeks.
This is the second recall for some of the same vehicles following a similar issue identified May 2025. Volvo told Reuters the latest recall is tied to an additional software issue that causes the same problem.
The company estimates that all vehicles included in the recall are affected. As of late December, no injuries, crashes or deaths had been reported in connection with the issue.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by mid-February. Drivers can also contact Volvo customer service or check the NHTSA website to see if their vehicle is included.
