Atlanta United Settles for 2-2 Tie

Atlanta Latinos Magazine – Atlanta United settled for a 2-2 tie against the New England Revolution on Sunday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Atlanta controlled time of possession 57% to 43% and outshot New England 26-14. Passing percentage, crosses, and corners were also all in Atlanta’s favor. Atlanta even had an expected goals of 1.97 versus 1.12 for New England. But in the end, it didn’t matter, as both teams ultimately tallied two goals.

Atlanta scored the first goal in the 15’ on a brilliant, laser beam shot off the foot of Thiago Almada. It was his second goal of the season.

New England later tied the match 1-1 in the 30’ on a goal by Adam Buksa. Carles Gil was credited with his team leading sixth assist of the season.

New England then took the lead early in the second half on another goal by Buksa. It was his second of the day and team leading sixth of the season.

However, that lead did not last long. Luiz Araujo scored his second goal of the season at 63’ on an assist from Almada and Marcelino Moreno.

Atlanta continues to struggle on the defensive end, having lost two of its defensive stalwarts to season ending injuries. Captain and goalkeeper Brad Guzan and MLS Best XI defender Miles Robinson both suffered Achilles injuries.

Atlanta United returns to action next Saturday, May 21st at Nashville. Atlanta’s next home match is against Columbus on Saturday, May 28th.
