Not much is known about the fifth “Jackass” film, not even its official title. But it’s set to hit theaters this summer.

WASHINGTON — For more than 25 years, Johnny Knoxville and “Jackass” have been synonymous. Now, the actor and stunt performer says he’s ready to end the long-running film series.

Jackass is the name of a TV series and then a series of films starring Knoxville and his friends, focused around the pranks and stunts they perform on each other. Not much is known about Jackass 5 (including its official title), but Knoxville said in an interview with Rolling Stone, published this week, that it would be the final installment in the series.

“This will be the last one. This is the natural place to end,” Knoxville said. “So it’s going to be absolutely awful.”

The 54-year-old said he would continue to work after the film, but would spend most of his time as a family man.

“Same thing I do day-to-day, be a dad, play with our crazy dog, hang out with my wife, work a little,” he said when asked about future plans.

It’s not necessarily a surprise that Knoxville is deciding to end the series now. He says he’s had enough concussions (most of them filmed while his friends laugh) for a lifetime.

Being interviewed in a Syndicate X Library video in January, Knoxville tempered expectations for the upcoming movie explaining he “can’t do anything where I can get another concussion.”

“(I’m) way over my limit for concussions,” he said. “I just can’t get hit in the head anymore. But, a lot of other guys can.”

His last concussion was from a stunt filmed for “Jackass Forever” in 2022. He was pummeled by a bull and ended up with a brain hemorrhage, concussion — which he has had more than a dozen of that he can recall — broken ribs and broken wrist. It was that incident that led him to retire from doing stunts before this announcement.

The Jackass franchise began as an MTV show that aired from 2000 to 2001, and spawned a series of films continuing the hijinks. The franchise has become a lowbrow cultural icon, spawning parodies and copies of Knoxville’s famous catchphrase, “Hi, I’m Johnny Knoxville, and welcome to Jackass.”

In addition to co-creating and starring in the “Jackass” franchise, Knoxville has appeared in films including “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “The Ringer” and “Men in Black II.”

He most recently began hosting the newest reboot of “Fear Factor” called “Fear Factor: House of Fear,” which premiered Jan. 14.

The new Jackass movie will premiere in theaters June 26, produced by Paramount Pictures.
