The payments are scheduled to be distributed on April 15 and will go to eligible workers across the school system.

ATLANTA — Thousands of employees with Atlanta Public Schools will receive a one-time bonus of up to $2,000 later this month, district leaders announced.

The payments are scheduled to be distributed on April 15 and will go to eligible workers across the school system — including teachers, support staff and other employees who help keep schools running.

District leaders say the bonuses are meant to recognize the work of employees across every role in the system.

“This is about recognizing the full APS team,” Superintendent Bryan Johnson said in a statement. “The state made an important investment in educators, but here in Atlanta, we decided to go further. We expanded that investment to include employees across our district, because it takes every single one of us to support our students every single day.”

The Atlanta Board of Education voted April 2 to extend the bonuses to more district employees.

How the bonuses will work

The payments build on a statewide initiative approved earlier this year as part of the state’s amended 2026 budget.

On March 3, Brian Kemp signed House Bill 973, which included a one-time $2,000 supplement for eligible K–12 teachers and school support staff across Georgia.

Atlanta Public Schools leaders decided to expand that benefit locally so that more district employees could qualify, including some who would not have been covered under the state’s original plan.

Board Chair Jessica Johnson said the board wanted to make sure the bonus reached more workers.

“We saw an opportunity to expand this investment and make sure it reached the full APS team, not just a portion of it,” Johnson said.

Who qualifies for the bonus

The amount employees receive will depend on their job status.

According to the district, eligibility and payments will follow these guidelines:

  • Full-time employees: Up to $2,000
  • Part-time employees: Prorated amount based on their work percentage
  • Substitute and hourly employees: Up to $1,000, based on the number of days worked

Workers must have been actively employed by Atlanta Public Schools as of Jan. 2, 2026, or be on approved Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) status to qualify for the payment.
