Atlanta United vs. NY Red Bulls

Game Ends in Scoreless Tie

Guzan Records First Clean Sheet

Atlanta Latinos Magazine – Atlanta United returned home Saturday night to play New York Red Bulls.  It was a match that Atlanta mostly controlled and should have won.  However, neither team was able to scratch the scoreboard, and the game ended in a scoreless tie.

Atlanta United owned the first half, controlling the ball and keeping New York pinned on its side of the field.  Atlanta had ten shots on goal, with eight of those coming from inside the box.  Yet Atlanta was unable to convert any of that into successful scoring opportunities.

Atlanta’s manager Ronny Deila commented that “I think we played unbelievably good in the [first] half an hour.  I really enjoyed myself watching that.”

The second half was a different story.  Atlanta appeared disjointed, unable to connect on any passing attacks.  Atlanta had one shot on goal in the entire second half.  Deila said the play “was not good enough, that’s how it is.  We lost the ball, so we can’t talk about scoring goals…we need to play as a team, the same way as we did the first half an hour.”

Atlanta’s goalkeeper Brad Guzan earned his first clean sheet of the season.  New York attempted only five shots.

Atlanta next takes the pitch on Sunday, March 16th to face Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.

Notes…Pedro Amador made his first start of the season after missing the first two matches of the season…Deila previously noted that Brooks Lennon may return in the next match, giving Atlanta its full complement of first team players…Atlanta had 1.64 expected goals versus .61 for New York…attendance was announced as 42,562.
