Suffer First Defeat in the New Stadium

ATLANTA, GA (October 3, 2017) Atlanta United lost 3-2 to the Minnesota United FC on Tuesday night.  This marks the first defeat for Atlanta in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta was without five of its key starters.  Miguel Almiron and Greg Garza missed the match due to injuries.  Josef Martinez and Brad Guzan were away on international assignments.

Minnesota struck first with a goal in the first half during stoppage time.  Abu Danladi was credited with the score on an assist from Kevin Molino.

In the second half, Atlanta tied up the match and soon after took a 2-1 lead.  Villalba scored the first goal in the 67’ unassisted.  Five minutes later, Julian Gressel tacked on the second goal with an assist from Yamil Asad.

Atlanta held the lead for the remainder of regulation time.  However, Minnesota would add two goals in the seven minutes of stoppage time.

Attendance was 43,185.
