ATLUTD vs Montreal Impact

Atlanta United Grind Out 2-0 Victory

ATLANTA, GA (Sept. 24, 2017) Atlanta United continued its home dominance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday by defeating Montreal Impact 2-0.  With the win, United moved in to third place in the Eastern Conference and a step closer to locking up a playoff spot.

The United attack scored a goal in each half.  Meanwhile, the defense held Montreal scoreless.  Guzan recorded another clean sheet, his fifth of the season.

Tito Villalba recorded the first goal in the first halftime with a right-footed laser shot past the Montreal goalie.  The assist was credited to Carlos Carmona.

The second and final goal was scored by Jeff Larentowicz in the 73’ on an assist from Julian Gressel.  The goal was Larentowicz’s first of the season.

Gressel had entered the game as a substitute for Miguel Almiron in the 17’.  The early substitution was believed to be related to a leg injury suffered by Almiron.

United looks to protect its home turf in its next match against Wednesday September 27th against Philadelphia Union.  United tied Philadelphia 2-2 back in August.

Attendance for the match was 43,502.
