From feeding students on weekends to mentoring the next generation, The Pearl Foundation is stepping up where the need is greatest.
ATLANTA — Organizations like The Pearl Foundation are stepping up to meet growing needs across metro Atlanta, from food insecurity to youth mentorship, and changing lives in the process.
11Alive Anchor Faith Jessie sat down with Stacy L. Grooms, President of The Pearl Foundation, and Development Officer Sonja Moon Jackson to discuss the nonprofit’s impact and mission. Founded in 2008, the organization provides programming and services to support families and strengthen communities, particularly in Cobb County and Marietta.
“The need is great,” Grooms said. “Every year we learn about new needs from our partners,” pointing to food insecurity as one of the foundation’s top priorities.
Through partnerships with local schools, the organization provides weekend meal support for students who may not have access to food outside of school. “We pack backpacks that students can take home for the weekend,” Jackson explained. “We’re serving thousands of students and hundreds of backpacks every month.”
Beyond food access, the foundation also focuses on leadership development, mentorship, college preparation, and community engagement initiatives, adapting its work as needs evolve.
Community response has continued to grow, with leaders saying more people are recognizing their presence and impact. “They’re getting to know us more,” Grooms said. “When people see us out in the community, they engage.”
The organization is also calling on the public to get involved, whether through volunteering, donating, or attending events like Pearls in the Park this weekend at Truist Park.
