MARTA gives list of stations undergoing construction, new faregates installations

ATLANTA — MARTA’s plan to roll out and install its new fare collection system is continuing, with the transit company announcing new construction dates for stations across metro Atlanta.

The upgraded system includes new Breeze cards and tickets, faregates and validators, ticket vending machines, and an updated mobile app.

Construction and fare equipment installations are being done in phases to guarantee continued access to rail stations with minimal disruptions.

MARTA’s upcoming fare construction dates and locations are as follows:

• Dunwoody Station: Starting Thursday, Jan 22, all faregates will be under construction, and customers should use emergency gates. Customers must pay fare to exit at the destination.
• Ashby Station: Starting Friday, Jan 23, all faregates will be under construction, and customers should use emergency gates. Customers must pay fare to exit at the destination. 
• Lenox Road: Starting Monday, Jan. 26, the Lenox Road entrance near Lenox Square Mall will close and all faregates will be under construction. Customers should use the emergency gate at the north entrance (Resurgens Plaza). For bus and shuttle customers only: Use the lower concourse emergency gate to the bus loop. Please follow signage and allow up to 10 extra minutes. Customers must pay fare to exit at the destination.
• SEC District Station: The west entrance to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be closed. Customers should use east faregates on the State Farm Arena side and are asked to please follow the signs.

In a statement, MARTA says customers should continue using the current Breeze mobile app, Breeze cards, and equipment until the customer transition period from March 28 to May 2. 

Customers are advised to start spending down their fare balances now, as balances on cards and in the app do not carry over. 

Fare equipment construction is also currently underway at the following stations:

• Avondale
• Buckhead
• Civic Center
• Doraville
• East Point
• Georgia State
• H.E. Holmes
• Indian Creek
• Kensington
• Lindbergh
• Midtown
• North Springs
• Vine City 
• West End
