The Atlanta streetcar service was suspended in September 2025 as Georgia Power worked on some utility repairs.
ATLANTA — MARTA announced streetcars are scheduled to return to service at the beginning of February.
The transportation company suspended the streetcar service in September 2025 as Georgia Power conducted important underground utility repairs. Lanes between Courtland Street and Peachtree Center Avenue, where the power company was digging and repairing underground electrical lines, were closed for safety reasons. MARTA said streetcars cannot operate alongside open construction areas.
The pause in service also coincided with upgrades of the infrastructure along the streetcar route.
In addition, the company was able to complete the following projects during the suspension:
- Catenary inspection and repair
- Track maintenance
- Tree trimming
- Station refurbishment
- Signage and vehicle updates
- Deep cleaning along the route
The streetcars are expected to resume service on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
