Hopper was in a North Carolina shelter for 121 days before he found his forever home with Monk John.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Thanks to one of the monks that participated in the Walk for Peace, a dog from North Carolina now has a place to call home

Guilford County Animal Services in Greensboro, North Carolina, said on Thursday that a three-legged dog named Hopper was adopted by Monk John after being at the shelter for 121 days.

Hopper was taken in by the shelter while injured. He suffered from an illness that required his leg to be amputated for his life to be saved.

“Despite everything he’d been through, Hopper never lost his gentle spirit … he just needed someone to give him a chance,” said the Guilford County Animal Shelter in a Facebook post.

Monk John developed a friendship with Hopper, welcoming him into a new life full of love. The shelter said it couldn’t be happier for the dog’s newfound purpose.

“Now, instead of watching the world pass him by through a window, Hopper gets to roam wide open land, explore, and truly be a dog again,” the shelter said.

A group of Buddhist monks started their Walk for Peace on Oct. 26 in Fort Worth, Texas, on a path to Washington, D.C., which they reached 15 weeks later, on Feb. 10. The walk highlighted Buddhism’s long tradition of activism for peace.
