ATLANTA — Morris Brown has announced that Dr. Kevin James has been reinstated as president of the college, following his abrupt termination last week.

The school’s Board of Trustees issued a statement announcing that Dr. James had accepted the invitation to return as president on Jan. 16, as part of a mutually agreed resolution.

The Board stated that James’ separation from the College “did not fully comply with the procedural and contractual requirements outlined in his employment agreement.” The group said it was their responsibility to adhere to the established standards and to “correct actions that fall short of those obligations.”

The school initially terminated James on Jan. 12, which led to James reacting to the news on social media, calling the timing of this decision “particularly troubling.”

In a statement, the Board acknowledged that James’ termination was “disruptive and painful for the members of the Morris Brown community,” saying it regrets the harm it caused. They continued by saying that while correcting a process failure is necessary, the Board “recognizes that this action alone does not resolve broader concerns that have been raised regarding workplace culture trust, and the experience of the employees.”
