The chain is spotlighting popular menu items from the mid-2010s as part of a social media trend revisiting the era.
WASHINGTON — Panera is getting involved in the internet’s 2016 nostalgia, bringing back one of its most iconic menu staples to do so.
In honor of the social media trend revisiting the pop culture favorites from a decade ago, Panera Bread has launched a limited-time “2016 menu,” featuring four fan-favorite items that were especially popular from that year.
“These menu favorites defined that era for a reason, and featuring them in this limited-time meal felt like the perfect way to give guests a little comfort, fun and flavors that truly stand the test of time,” said Panera Chief Marketing Officer Mark Shambura, according to USA Today.
The throwback menu launched Jan. 16 and is available only through the Panera Bread mobile app.
The menu includes four items that were already part of Panera’s offerings but reached peak popularity in 2016:
- Bacon Turkey Bravo — Oven-roasted turkey breast, applewood-smoked bacon, aged white cheddar, mixed greens, tomatoes and Signature Bravo sauce on Tomato Basil miche
- Broccoli Cheddar in a Bread Bowl — Broccoli and carrots simmered in a cheese sauce, served in Panera’s signature edible bread bowl
- Chocolate Chipper Cookie — Made with semi-sweet chocolate chunks and milk chocolate flakes
- Agave Lemonade — A blend of lemon juice, sugar, agave nectar and water
Panera says the throwback menu will be available through Friday, Jan. 23.
While the special menu is limited-time, all four items will continue to be offered individually after the promotion ends.
