Mountain Dew is swapping its name for a limited-edition “American Dew” rebrand to honor the U.S. 250th anniversary.
One of America’s most recognizable sodas is changing its name — at least for the summer. Starting April 20, Mountain Dew began hitting shelves across the country as “American Dew,” in celebration of the U.S. 250th anniversary.
The rebrand is purely packaging, and doesn’t change the formula or flavor of the soda. The familiar citrus flavor remains across the full lineup, including original, diet and zero sugar varieties. The new look features red, white and blue stripes and white stars modeled after the American flag.
“Since 1948, Mountain Dew has been defined by a bold, unapologetic taste born in Tennessee. An American Original – Tasting Great Since ’48 is our tribute to where we started — and to the fans who’ve carried the brand forward for nearly 80 years. American Dew is a tangible celebration of that story, created to mark this moment in a meaningful way,” Michael Smith, vice president of marketing for Mountain Dew at PepsiCo Beverages U.S., said in a statement.

The name change also comes with cash giveaways. From April 20 through July 11, consumers can scan a QR code on a participating Mountain Dew product to enter weekly grand prize drawings for a chance to win $250. No purchase is necessary to enter.
The “American Dew” rebrand is not the brand’s first recent nostalgia play. Mountain Dew returned to its original full-name branding in 2024 after dropping the abbreviated “Mtn Dew” packaging it had used since 2009.
Limited-edition “American Dew” cans and bottles are available nationwide throughout the summer.
