Passengers should expect to stay in lines at TSA security checkpoints for nearly two hours.
ATLANTA — A growing number of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers are calling out of work, leading to longer wait times at security checkpoints and other delays at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
Travelers at the busiest airport in the world can expect to stay in TSA lines for nearly two hours on Tuesday morning. Right now, according to the airport’s website, TSA wait times for main checkpoints is about 90 minutes, for the North checkpoint, it’s about 70, with International checkpoints at about 34 minutes.
Not only are wait times at TSA causing issues, but also some flight statuses are putting a pause on travel plans. On Tuesday morning, there are more than 100 delays and more than 150 cancellations as flights are trying to get back on track following severe weather on Monday. The Federal Aviation Administration said Delta Flights were grounded on Tuesday morning after the Airline requested a brief Air Traffic Control management program “to meter inbound flights to our Atlanta hub for operational purposes.”
The FAA also released the following statement regarding
“We appreciate the partnership with Air Traffic Control and our customers’ patience as we work through ensuing delays caused by severe weather in eastern North America yesterday.”
Hartsfield-Jackson posted on its X account on Monday that travelers should expect longer-than-normal wait times due to the weather conditions, but it also mentioned it was also due to “staffing constraints.”

The General Manager at Hartsfield-Jackson, Rickey Smith, said they are seeing about a 36% call out rate for TSA agents, and it is expected to continue growing. TSA workers are working without pay due to the partial government shutdown, which started on Valentine’s Day. However, he mentioned how the airport is trying to work with the agents to alleviate some of the stress they might have during this shutdown.
“We have a community here at the airport that’s being extremely creative in finding ways to try to support our TSA employees in finding them food in finding them free transportation,” said Smith.
