HBO marked the beginning of a “new era” for Hogwarts.
WASHINGTON — HBO has unveiled the first trailer for the new “Harry Potter” television series.
The trailer arrives just a day after the official “Harry Potter” Instagram account teased a photo of the Dominic McLaughlin as the young wizard. Wednesday’s trailer gave a look how Harry Potter and his arrival at Hogwarts.
Fans got a look at Hagrid, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Dumbledore and other memorable characters from the beloved book series. The first season of the show will be called “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.”
“A new era of Hogwarts begins. The HBO Original Series Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres this Christmas. #HarryPotterHBO,” the official account said on Instagram.
When does the new ‘Harry Potter’ series come out?
Along with the new trailer, HBO finally confirmed when fans of Hogwarts can expect the new series on their screens.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” premieres on Christmas Day.
Warner Bros. Discovery also shared the show’s synopsis.
:”There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past,” the logline, shared in a news release, read.
The TV series will be a new adaptation of the original novels, and J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the show.
HBO describes the series as a “faithful” adaptation of the books, with each season bringing Harry Potter to new and existing audiences.
The HBO show officially began production in mid-July 2025. Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout have been cast as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively.
The newcomers were cast as part of an open call led by HBO in 2024. Showrunners revealed that they were reviewing over 32,000 audition tapes received in response to the original casting call.
The cast members join John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Nick Frost, and Paapa Essiedu, who are set to play Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid and Severus Snape. Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse also round out the cast in recurring roles as Quirinus Quirrell and Argus Filch.
