ATLANTA — A pretty clear picture is starting to form early Sunday morning of the ice situation from the winter storm in Georgia: the farther north you go up I-85 and GA-400 and the farther east you go toward Athens, the icier it looks.
Around 7 a.m., Georgia Department of Transportation cameras in the region showed significant icing on roads in counties including Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Dawson, Forsyth, White, Lumpkin, Hall, Jackson, Madison, Hart, Elbert, Clarke and Barrow. Basically, just draw a circle around northeast Georgia, pick a county, and you can find ice on the ground at this hour.
Getting closer to Atlanta, there’s ice formation on I-85 in farther north Gwinnett, for instance, but not to the same degree. Get into DeKalb and the city of Atlanta, and there’s certainly some ice formation on trees and parked cars, but the ground itself is still pretty wet.
Here’s some visual help with that. In Atlanta, you can see stuff like this:

In northeast Georgia, it’s far more visible:

Here you’ve got Highway 365 in Hall County, near Lula, and then I-85 in Gwinnett County for comparison’s sake:

Meanwhile, here’s how it looks in Athens:

Here’s Cumming and Dawsonville:
