GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A large piece of ice that came off the top of a Jeep Wrangler shattered the windshield of a pickup truck on Interstate 85 south in Gwinnett County on Monday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The incident happened around 12:20 p.m. just south of the Old Peachtree Road exit on I-85. A trooper responded to a property damage call involving the Jeep and a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, authorities said.
Investigators determined the ice dislodged from the Jeep’s roof and struck the Ram’s windshield, causing the glass to break. Both vehicles pulled over after the incident.
No injuries were reported. Troopers completed a report to document the damage.
When asked about how drivers could use Georgia laws to have a potential case in this scenario, GSP said:
“There are a couple of Georgia laws that could be used in a case involving ice coming off a vehicle, Unsecured Load or Securing Load code sections, for example. However, most are cases of covering the incident on a report, either crash or incident, for insurance”
