ATLANTA — Georgia health officials are encouraging residents to practice safe measures to prevent getting sick as the number of hospitalizations and deaths continues to climb.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), flu cases are expected to increase after the holidays as everyone returns to school and work.
However, there are some steps individuals can take to keep from getting sick, such as getting the vaccine. These shots are offered at public health departments, select grocery stores, neighborhood clinics, doctors’ offices and pharmacies.
Knowing flu symptoms is also a good idea, which can appear like the common cold. Symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue. The affects can vary depending on the person, but Georgia Health officials said some people are at a higher risk of developing serious complications if they get sick. This includes individuals who are 65 and older, anyone with certain chronic medical conditions such as asthma, pregnant women and kids under the age of five.
