The 1.2-mile path connects the Glenwood Park, Grant Park, Ormewood Park and Boulevard Heights neighborhoods.
ATLANTA — The newest segment of the Atlanta Beltline opened on Thursday, connecting Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue on the southeast side of the city.
The 1.2-mile path connects the Glenwood Park, Grant Park, Ormewood Park and Boulevard Heights neighborhoods and brings the total Beltline trail length to 14.8 miles.
It also creates safer routes to school for students at Parkside Elementary and Maynard Jackson High School, the second Atlanta public high school located directly on the Beltline, according to Beltline officials.
Workers are wrapping up the next segment, which would connect Boulevard to the existing path starting at Pittsburgh Yards. Until then, cyclists can ride residential streets to connect between Boulevard and Pittsburgh Yards. A map of the route is posted at Boulevard.
That project is expected to be done in June and will complete the remaining Southside Trail, bringing the total continuous paved Beltline trail to 17.9 miles.

Segments on the north end of the Beltline remain unfinished. Those projects are in various stages of development, and Beltline officials hope to have those completed by 2030, creating a full 22-mile loop around the city.

The most complex part of the remaining project is the 2.3- mile segment three of the Northeast Trail from Buford Highway to the MARTA Lindberg station. The project will involve crossings of existing railways, highways, and Peachtree Creek.
