Almirón Strikes Again! (Español)
Atlanta United Wins 3-1
Atlanta, GA – May 28, 2017 by Chris Keyser
Atlanta United earned a measure of redemption Sunday evening, defeating New York City FC 3-1. Three weeks ago, NYC FC handed the Five Stripers a loss at Yankee Stadium by the identical score.
United scored three goals in less than seven minutes in the first half. Miguel Almirón had two goals (16th and 23rd minute) that bookended a goal by Hector Villalba in the 19th minute. This was Almirón’s second consecutive impressive outing after recording a hat trick against the Houston Dynamo. Almirón now assumes sole possession of the team lead in goals.
The United defense was stout. It neutralized NYC’s top player David Villa, who was relatively quiet for most of the game. The lone goal for NYC came in the 71st minute by Jack Harrison.
Miguel earned the Man of the Match and the Golden Spike award for the second straight week!
Almirón continues his stellar play since starting centrally two weeks ago. Miguel earned the Man of the Match and the Golden Spike award for the second straight week. With Josef Martinez expected back from injury soon, it will be interesting to see how Tata Martino adjusts the lineup.

Notes…Atlanta United was managed by assistant Jorge Theiler because Martino was suspended in the prior match for arguing a call and then kicking the ball on to the pitch…United continued its good play against the top teams in MLS…Julian Gressel continued his impressive play since moving to the right three games ago. He had two key assists in Sunday’s match, both setting up Almirón goals.
